Orchard Hotel in Singapore to become Smoke Free

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 14 February 2007

The Orchard Hotel Singapore is set to usher in this “Year of the Golden Pig” which comes around every 600 years, with a breath of fresh air!

From the first day of Lunar New Year (18 February 2007), the hotel will become 100% smoke-free. This means smoking will not be allowed in all guestrooms, restaurants, lounges, meeting rooms, public areas and employee work areas.

“Presently 75% of our guest rooms are already non-smoking, this is a 25% increase from two years ago when the trend moved towards increasing non-smoking inventory based on demand and preference of our guests. Smoking is currently prohibited in several public areas due to local laws and in line with the National Environment Agency’s new smoking regulations, which will be implemented in Singapore from 1 July 2007. In conjunction with this new law, the hotel will introduce a smoke-free policy in the new year to welcome and provide our guests a healthy, smoke-free hotel experience.” said Eric Brand, General Manager of Orchard Hotel Singapore.
