Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay Bodrum launches Rejuvenating Water Therapy Treatment

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Friday, 12 October 2007

The Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay Bodrum in Turkey has launched a rejuvenating water therapy combined with shiatsu massage - WATSU, at the hotel's Six Senses Spa.

WATSU consists of a massage given in a private pool filled with warm water (at about 35 degrees Celsius) containing a salt concentration that is five times higher than sea water. It was developed by Harold Dull (president of the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association) back in 1980, when he started applying Zen Shiatsu stretches to students floating in the warm pool at Harbin Hot Springs in California. Floating through the pool, supported by the therapist and the water’s high salt content, the typical shiatsu massage technique focuses on stretching to release blockages along the body’s energy points, meridians or ‘chi’. Additionally acupressure is applied to restore the free flow of life energy throughout the body.

This full body treatment gives a unique feeling of relaxation as the weightless floating and gentle massage releases any tension. Medical research shows that floating in warm water can be soothing, especially for acute and chronic pain, in addition to the mental benefits of meditation.

The Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay Bodrum offers a five-day package, including accommodation in a sea view room with balcony, breakfast, welcome drink and amenities, two special Six Senses Spa treatments individually designed for each guest, airport transfers and wireless internet access.

This package starts from €955 (approx. £648) for single and €1260 (approx. £855) for double occupancy until October 31, 2007 or €615 (approx. £417) for single and €925 (approx. £627) for double occupancy from November 1 to March 31, 2007.

The Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay lies in solitude on the rocky Bodrum Peninsula coast, unique with a private beach which is only accessible from the hotel or by approach from the sea. All 173 rooms and suites, each with its own terrace or balcony, offer uninterrupted views over the bay and Aegean Sea.

Several outstanding restaurants and bars as well as an exclusive night club offer lively entertainment in the evenings. The Six Senses Spa provides a unique experience with 5,500sqm indoor and outdoor space including the ‘honeymoon spa suite’, a marble Turkish hammam, fully equipped gym and fitness centre, sauna, steam room, indoor pool and whirlpool are also available.
