Travel News Asia Thursday, 9 November 2006

Sofitel is set to add a European touch to one of southern Thailand’s most romantic beach destinations when Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi Resort & Spa opens on 15 November.

Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi Resort & Spa is opening with a special rate of only 5,400++ baht a night (US$145++) for double occupancy including breakfast until 31 January 2007 (extra peak season charges apply during 20 Dec – 10 Jan 2007).

The 276-room low-rise resort features attractive colonial architecture fronted by a beautiful white sand beach and surrounded by tropical rainforest. Sofitel Krabi will have one of the largest lagoon style swimming pools in the province covering over 7,000 metres, plus an extensive water sport and dive centre in front of the resort.

An in-house activity centre will incorporate a cooking school, Kid’s Club, fitness centre, aerobic studio and flood lit tennis court. The hotel’s Sofitel Library will feature a cigar and cognac bar with seating for 20 people.

Krabi’s romantic allure will make the resort a honeymoon paradise for newlyweds. The hotel’s charming open air Wedding Pavilion extends over the pools with sunsets over the Andaman Sea providing a dramatic backdrop. There are 7 Honeymoon Suites (103sqm) in a isolate wing with private entrance plus step down direct access into the pool.

Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi will be the first hotel in Thailand to launch Sofitel’s Le Spa health and wellness concept. The extensive complex will have the latest European Spa technology and include 8 double rooms for couples and four single rooms, all with private soaking tubs.

Meeting and incentive planners are attracted to Krabi’s natural beauty and its new international airport. The hotel’s five luxurious function rooms are capable of handling group events or corporate get-togethers of up to 600 people. The versatile meeting space, combined with Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi’s exciting food and beverage offerings, make it a perfect setting for exclusive MICE events.

Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi offers five restaurants and three bars serving an innovative range of drinks and cuisine:

Ristorante Venezia - a stylish Italian restaurant with show kitchen, wood burning pizza oven and views of the Andaman Sea.

White Lotus – contemporary Thai restaurant offering dishes from the four major culinary regions of the Kingdom.

By the end of 2007 there are scheduled to be over 70 Sofitel hotels in operation around Asia Pacific.
