Rezidor SAS to open 14 New Hotels in Middle East by 2008

Travel News Asia Monday, 8 May 2006

Rezidor SAS Hospitality is to open an additional 14 properties across four brands – Park Inn, Radisson SAS, Missoni and Regent – in the Middle East by 2008.

In Dubai, the company has just unveiled plans to operate its first apartment project. The Radisson SAS Residence, Pier 24 will be in the new up-market residential area, Dubai Marina. The Residence, which will overlook the man-made marina and be close to the Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City business parks, is scheduled to open in the beginning of 2008. It will have 142 apartments, a restaurant and health club, including a swimming pool and three large retail areas.

“This will be our second apartment venture in the region and our strategy is to ensure that all new brands have very distinctive and individual identities, and to let the new generation of properties coming through, define each of the brands,” said Jean-Marc Busato Vice President Middle East, Rezidor SAS Hospitality.

In Aqaba, Jordan, the company will also be part of a luxury real estate community development on the Red Sea.

The Radisson SAS Tala Bay Resort, Aqaba will have a 323 rooms, lobby lounge and bar, a rooftop bar, two restaurants, three pools and a 342 metre beach, which will complement extensive landscaping. A leading local investment company owns the hotel, scheduled for completion in mid June next year.

Tala Bay is an integrated real estate development with several hotels, residential complexes, a marina and leisure activities including golf, a beach club and an aqua park on an exclusive two-kilometre beach strip on the banks of the Red Sea.

Another focus area for Rezidor SAS is the emerging market of Oman where the company will introduce its new mid market hotel brand - Park Inn.

The Park Inn, Muscat will have 200 rooms, a restaurant and bar, meeting facilities, a business centre and health club. It will be in the heart of Muscat, just minutes from the beachfront and the embassy district as well as shopping malls. The hotel is set for completion by 2008.

“Oman’s tourism industry is on the rise and will see visitors from across the world looking for a diverse holiday destination. This will result in an increase of travellers with different requirements and financial resources,” explained Busato.

Currently Rezidor SAS operates more than 60 Park Inn hotels in Europe and Africa and is set for extensive growth. The Park Inn brand will make its Middle East debut in 2007 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with two properties in Al Khobar and Riyadh.

The group is also set to introduce its new lifestyle brand Missoni and top of the line luxury Regent Hotels to the region.
