Virgin Blue to add Video on Demand to Perth Flights

Travel News Asia 8 March 2006

Virgin Blue is to offer movie entertainment via personal ‘video on demand’ players on its Perth flights from next month.

Virgin Blue’s international subsidiary Pacific Blue introduced the “DigEplayer” personal video units on international flights last year. The players have been so popular, on some routes the airline has had to double the number of units available on board to keep up with demand.

Personal video on demand will be available on all Perth flights on a pay-for-use basis of A$15 for the duration of flight and unlimited access to 10 preloaded feature length movies, 10 sitcoms and short programs, up to 20 music videos and around 100 songs across several music categories.

"Guests on our short haul international flights liked the DigEplayers so much, we asked regular flyers on Perth flights if they’d like them too,” said Heather Jeffery, spokesperson for Virgin Blue.

"They’re perfect for longer domestic routes, larger than a paperback, smaller than a laptop, a mini computer with a hard drive loaded with hundreds of hours of entertainment.

“Each guest controls and determines what they watch, and when, including pause, rewind and fast forward options at the tip of their fingers. In six months of offering video on demand on international flights, the only complaints we have ever received are that the flight time is too short to get through all the movies,” Heather said.
