Hospitality Design Asia Exhibition and Conference returns to Hong Kong in June

Travel News Asia 8 March 2006

Following the success of its inaugural event last year, Hospitality Design Asia Exhibition and Conference (HD Asia) promises to be twice the size this year, and, once again, will feature some of the industry’s most influential and successful leaders.

The event, which takes place June 28-29, 2006, at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, has attracted an impressive line up of speakers. This includes world renowned architect and interior designer Tony Chi whose cutting-edge style is showcased in iconic design concepts such as `the residence,’ a residential-style, multi-function event facility at the Grand Hyatt Erawan; SPOON by Alain Ducasse at Inter-Continental Hong Kong; Asiate and MOBar at Mandarin Oriental New York; and SKY LOFTS at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Other confirmed speakers include John Miller, Director of Design & Development, Peninsula Hotels; Byron Wong, Group Design Manager, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group; Jean-Michel Gathy, Principal, Denniston International; Richard Sung, M.D., Chia Tai Unotel Management Ltd.; and Henry Wong, founder, WGD Wong Gregerson Dabras Architects.

HD Asia is the only exhibition and conference in Asia Pacific solely focused on hospitality design. This year, it will welcome over 2,500 designers, architects, owners, developers, manufacturers, facility managers and other hospitality professionals from Asia Pacific and around the world.

The educational sessions aim at enlightening visitors on development strategies and design tactics for hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, casinos and clubs, senior living facilities and multi-use developments in Asia Pacific.

The Conference commences June 28 at 9 am, with the `Hotel Owners’ Roundtable on Design / Development’ - a discussion focusing on key innovations and growth in design across Asia Pacific.

Tony Chi will deliver the Hospitality Keynote at 10:30am, followed by afternoon sessions `Common Design Errors in Hotels’, `Hospitality Design Asia Forum’ and `Energy Matters: Designing to Conserve and Sustain Resources.’

The second day’s Hospitality Keynote is by Jean-Michel Gathy, whose company, Denniston International, boasts prestigious projects such as Fuchun Resort, Hangzhou; One & Only Resorts Reethi-Rah Maldives and The Setai, USA, among others.

According to Michelle Finn, vice president, VNU Expositions, Inc., and event co-producer, “Given the success of last year’s event, we are looking forward to once again representing the key leaders and influencers of the Asia Pacific hospitality design industry. We remain committed to offering the ideal platform for hospitality design professionals to find practical and effective information pertaining to issues that affect them and their peers.”

In addition to the Conference, HD Asia offers an Exhibition featuring leading industry manufacturers and suppliers from Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America, providing visitors an opportunity to explore the latest industry trends among products and services related to design.

Networking opportunities include HD Asia’s signature event, `Party by the Harbor’, on Wednesday, June 28, at the elegant Plateau pool house at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The ticketed event is open to visitor/attendees and exhibitors.
