Avion Aircraft Trading has ordered four 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighters to be operated by
the group's subsidiary Air Atlanta Icelandic. The first of the 747-400BCFs is scheduled for redelivery by Boeing in August 2007.
Air Atlanta Icelandic is
one of the world's largest ACMI service providers (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance), offering solutions to other carriers in
both the passenger and cargo industries. The four Boeing Converted Freighters will replace older 747-200 freighters for Air Atlanta Icelandic.
"The four Boeing Converted Freighters are a great complement to the other freighters we currently operate," said Hafthor Hafsteinsson, chief
executive officer of Air Atlanta Icelandic. "These airplanes represent our future together with eight new Boeing 777 Freighters ordered in 2005."
For the freighter conversions, the 747-400 will be modified with a side cargo door and a layout that is identical to the 747-400 production freighter.
The 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighter is available with seating for up to 19 people in the upper
deck. Also included in the conversion is a strengthened main-deck floor, full main-deck lining, provisions for a new cargo-handling system and
revised flight-deck systems. Customers may choose and incorporate support packages during freighter conversions, including avionics and
flight-deck upgrades, customized maintenance programs and integration of technical manuals.
