Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel Pays Tribute to Industry Partners

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 6 June 2006

In an exclusive affair to reciprocate the insurmountable support of the travel industry, the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel hosted its 2nd annual Star Awards 2006 amidst a packed presence of more than 500 distinguished guests, represented mainly by members of the travel trade fraternity.  The highlight being the presentation of the “Million Dollar Agent Award”, the “Top Supporting Agent Award” and the “Best Airline Partnership Award”, the dinner cum awards night took on an atmosphere of camaraderie with various local, regional and international travel operators, agents and airline representatives in attendance.

Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel’s Group General Manager Mr. Jean-Jacques Kiefer expressed his views that the projected upward trend in tourist arrivals and receipts by Tourism Malaysia, is an indication of the strengthened extensive integrated marketing efforts by the tourism industry, as well as the diversified tourism products that the country has to offer.

“We believe that tonight’s awards ceremony illustrates an example of the cooperation and teamwork amongst tourism players who are all striving towards one common goal. Needless to say, this sort of strategic alliance or smart partnership often works as a catalyst to further push the bar in terms of creativity, and coupled by fundamental values, it provides a solid foundation for sustainable business,” Kiefer said.

Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel’s Star Awards 2006 held at its recently refurbished Grand Lagoon Ballroom kicked off with gusto when a troupe of dancers dressed in retro outfits burst into a vigourous routine encapsulating the dance-filled happy days of the 70’s. Entertainment continued with Joanne Yeoh, Malaysia’s very own homegrown techno-fusion violinist, who took over the show with a repertoire of romantic and nostalgic favourites. Culminating the show line-up were uncrowned kings of comedy Indi Nadarajah and Allan Perera in the form of Indi & Loga who left the audience in stitches.

The event peaked with the awards ceremony featuring three distinct categories. The first was the “Best Airline Partnership Award” presented to the hotel’s two top supporting airlines which were Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia who excelled in the International and Regional categories respectively. Next was the “Top Supporting Agent Award” given away to twenty award recipients, and the final and most sought after was the “Million Dollar Agent Award” showcasing the outstanding contribution of the hotel’s top three travel partners who were Mr. Ngiam Foon of Asia Experience, Mr. Andy Muniandy of Asian Overland Services and Mr. Chin Ten Hoy of Mayflower ACME Tours.

Lady luck showered her blessings upon three guests who walked away with return air tickets to Phnom Penh, Hanoi and Hong Kong Disneyland, complete with accommodation. Other lucky winners won themselves Samsung MP3 players, Samsung Microwave Ovens, S.E.T. electrical irons, hampers courtesy of ABS Hotel & Restaurant Supplies, Nestle Malaysia and Unilever Malaysia, as well as holiday packages at the Allson Residence at Mitra Oasis in Jakarta, the Sunway Hotel Georgetown, Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya, Pyramid Tower Hotel, Pyramid Suites & Studios, the flagship Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel and the luxury collection accommodation at The Villas.
