JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa adds to Popular Teambuilding Programs

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 5 September 2006

In addition to existing programs, including its popular “Survivor Phuket”, the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa has expanded its range of teambuilding options both on and off property, including a fun-filled Tuk Tuk Rally.

Additionally, the resort as added a new series of events for Meeting and Incentive groups called “JW Executive Tours” – all of which can be tailored to suit a client’s individual requirements.

Teambuilding is an excellent way to introduce an educational, fun-filled activity into a conference program and often is the highlight of the conference. Participants are required to co-operate and share resources to succeed, which also provides opportunities for building trust, tolerance and understanding that can then be used in both professional and personal situations.

All programs include a welcome banner, station flags, bandanas for team members, complete with company logo, as well as instructions for each event. Corporate clients and meeting planners can now choose from the following options – choosing a program to suit the theme of the conference – or even build the conference theme around the event.

Survivor Phuket - An executive teambuilding experience designed to provoke all of the responses and emotions that are present in a group environment. Groups are divided into teams and compete against each other by navigating their designated speedboats to 5 different tropical islands. On each island the teams must complete a combination of mental, physical and trust based activities. A truly memorable experience, Survivor Phuket is the resort's most popular teambuilding event as groups get to combine sightseeing with team work. Suitable for groups of 10 to 250 people.

Survivor Teambuilding - The ultimate corporate teambuilding experience. Located on the resort grounds, this activity presents the group with a series of problem solving and initiative challenges that focus on specific areas of teamwork, including communication, leadership, personal strengths, planning and trust. Teams are required to complete a series of objectives which are then followed by short debriefs. Teams stay together and compete against each other at each location with our expert team. Suitable for groups of 8 to 300 people.

Survivor Treasure Hunt - A high energy teambuilding activity held in the resort’s exotic landscape. Survivor Treasure Hunt involves a series of different problem solving and initiative challenges that teams must find and complete with the help of a map and a set of specific objectives. The activity is a competition between teams and all activities must be completed within a pre-designated time. The first team back to complete the final task is the winning team. Suitable for groups of 12 to 300 people.

Rhythm Nation - A specific teambuilding program, designed to develop a common vision within the group. Firstly the whole group listens to a traditional Thai song played by professional musicians. The group is then divided into 5 teams who practice a specific part of the song with a music teacher. At the end of the allocated time frame the teams combine to perform the song together - a profound metaphor for the progression of the whole group towards a common goal. Suitable for groups of 15 to 500 people.

Tuk Tuk Rally - A high energy teambuilding activity set in the resort’s unique surroundings of the Sirinath Marine National Park. This fun-filled program involves a series of problem solving and initiative challenges that teams must find and complete with the help of a map and specific objectives. Each team of 8 is in control of their own Tuk Tuk with a driver. The activity is a competition between teams and all activities must be completed within a pre-designated time. The first team back to complete the final task is the winning team. Suitable for groups of 16 to 250 people.

Awakenings - An executive balancing retreat. This program is designed to re-establish executives with balance in their lives. A series of profound yet subtle experiences and tools such as yoga, meditation, a visit to the temple and active breathing are combined to give participants more nourishment from their daily lives. This program is specifically for stressed and overworked executives who find it difficult to relax when away from work. Suitable for groups of 10 to 30 people.

JW Marriott Energizer Program - Some groups may not have time to participate in a full or half day program during their stay. Therefore, the resort has designed a short, fun 15-30 minute energizer program that groups can use before, during or after their meetings to get everyone’s energy levels up - can also be used as an ice breaker.

Half Day Speedboat Sightseeing Tour of Phang Nga Bay - This tour visits all the famous landmarks including James Bond Island, Koh Hong and the Sea Gypsy Village and includes a 1 hour guided Sea Kayak expedition. Tours can be arranged through the National Park caves and mangroves.

Rang Yai Island Adventure - Available as either a half or full day tour, the group can relax on a beautiful beach or participate in various activities including pitch and putt golf, mountain biking, beach volleyball, petanque, darts and kayaking.

Half Day Snorkeling Tour - A relaxing tour to the beautiful Kai Nok Island where participants can swim, snorkel and relax at their leisure. The tour guides can take interested members snorkeling to the outer reefs and teach beginners how to snorkel.

Adventure Jeep Safari - This tour takes the group up into the highlands of Phuket in 4WD Jeeps where participants will ride elephants, see how monkeys are trained to pick coconuts, learn about the many uses of coconuts, how a Thai curry is prepared, how rubber is traditionally tapped and made into latex, ride a water buffalo, and watch a baby elephant show.
