Hong Kong International Airport now offering Free Wi-Fi Internet Access throughout entire Airport

Travel News Asia Monday, 4 December 2006

PCCW and Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) are proving they do listen to travelers needs by launching free Wi-Fi Internet access throughout the entire airport.

This move represents the largest wireless broadband coverage available at a major international airport, with wall-to-wall service accessible throughout the Hong Kong International Airport passenger terminal building.

All airport users, including passengers, well-wishers and meeters and greeters, will be able to enjoy free Internet access in every part of the airport via Wi-Fi-enabled laptops, pocket PCs, mobile phones, gaming consoles and other handheld devices. According to a recent study, over 50% of airport users carry a laptop.

PCCW Consumer Group Managing Director Tom Chan said, “Wi-Fi Internet access has been available at the airport since 2003 – but by extending coverage and offering service free to users, we are conveying an important message to all travelers about Hong Kong’s determination to be a regional leader in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and innovation.”

Throughout December, airport users will also enjoy free access to a stylish “Wi-Fi Zone” in Arrival Hall A. Designed to offer a comfortable and convenient environment for wireless Internet use, this area will offer free use of Wi-Fi notebook computers, as well as workstation facilities for wireless Internet use.

Airport Authority Hong Kong Commercial Director Hans Bakker said, “December is a peak traveling season, and an opportune moment to show the world just how connected you can be in Hong Kong.”

“Over 70% of airport users expressed that they are likely to use the free wireless Internet connection service here. By providing the latest technologies, such as Wi-Fi Internet access throughout the airport, we are extending the enjoyment and convenience aspects of the traveling experience offered by HKIA,” he added.

The PCCW Wi-Fi network provides a convenient and stable environment for airport users to send and receive email, surf the Internet and even run high-speed applications. PCCW Wi-Fi supports a full range of notebooks, PDAs, smartphones and gaming devices to give travelers hassle-free Internet connectivity while on the move.
