Starwood to manage New Hotel in China's Guangdong Province

Starwood is to manage a new hotel in the Guangdong province of China, the Sheraton Huizhou Resort. The newly built 303-room Sheraton Huizhou Resort is scheduled to open in January 2009.

“With the addition of this resort in Huizhou, we have further strengthened our foothold in the Pearl River Delta and Guangdong province, a rapidly developing industrial base in China. Guangdong has the highest Gross Domestic Product ( GDP ) of all provinces and areas in China, and is the largest light industry production base in China and accounts for over half of China’s total output.” said Miguel Ko, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific.

Huizhou is situated in southeast of Guangdong province and occupies a pivotal position in the Pearl River Delta region thanks to its geographical location and excellent transport links. Huizhou is known as the regional hub in the Pearl River Delta and gateway city connecting eastern and northeastern Guangdong, as well as Fujian and Jiangxi. After Shenzhen, Huizhou is geographically nearest to Hong Kong, only 60 kilometers from Hong Kong by road and is easily accessible through various modes of transport from the various cities in the Greater Pearl River Delta region (including Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen, Zhongshan, Dongguan, Jiangmen and Zhuhai). Huizhou has also become of the fastest growing markets in southern China and is one of the three leading bases for electronic information industry in the Pearl River Delta region.

Sheraton Huizhou Resort will be located on the Xunliao Bay in Huidong country of Huizhou city. The resort will be part of an integrated beach and golf resort community consisting of the hotel, a 27-hole golf course, a ferry terminal, private club, 4 million square feet commercial and retail complex and private villas and residential units. The hotel will offer 303 rooms, 16,000 square feet of meeting space, five restaurants and bars, a health club and spa, tennis courts as well as indoor heated and outdoor swimming pools.
