Finnair serves heart-friendly food on European flights

Search ASIA Travel Tips .com Friday, 31 March 2006

Finnair is to serve heart-friendly food on European flights between 31 March and 6 April as part of the Finnish National Heart Week. Warm lunches or dinners on over two-hour European flights to Helsinki are prepared according recommendations by the Finnish Heart Association.

The main factor in heart-friendly food is the quality of fat. According to recommendations, at least two thirds of the fat should be soft vegetable fat, as this helps control cholesterol levels. On Finnair flights, margarine is served with bread and a vegetable oil dressing with the salad. The meals are also designed to look fresh, colourful and appetizing.

On European flights lasting more than two hours, a warm lunch or dinner is served in Business Class. The menu includes lightly salted salmon and rye bread mousse as a starter, roasted lamb with red onion sauce, mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables as main course, and a berry timbale as dessert. Coffee and tea are also served. The Heart Week is also acknowledged in Economy Class, where beef is served with red onion sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetables. A typical Finnish rye bread with margarine is also available.
