Orchard Hotel Singapore opens Impressive Signature Club Rooms

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 27 June 2006

The Orchard Hotel Singapore recently unveiled its new Signature Club Floors, following  the completion of a multi-million dollar facelift of the Orchard Wing. The hotel's 325 guestrooms in the Orchard Wing had undergone a full refurbishment which included the Suites and Club Floors.

All guest rooms in the Orchard Wing have been re-decorated, in a contemporary concept set against modern essentials with a touch of Chinese art.

The featured highlight of this project is best epitomised in The Signature Club Floors, designed specifically with the discerning business traveller in mind. The new Signature Club comes with a host of Signature services and amenities to provide a memorable experience for every guest.

World-renowned French interior designer Mr Pierre-Yves Rochon has created a contemporary and classy design for the Orchard Hotel Club floors. Named Signature Club Rooms, these rooms project a new M&C image with a fusion of Oriental décor and European styling.

Three Chinese chinaware colours are used to amplify the design theme: the rich, regal red hues of fine china silk, the contrasting blue and white tones that adorn delicate porcelain and the celadon green glaze of antique stoneware. These three signature colours are each interwoven with predominantly European black for an impressive visual impact.

The interior architecture makes clever use of sliding panels, typical of Chinese houses and an important element of the décor is the use of mood lighting that varies between daylight and night hues to bring out the best design features of the room.

The furniture is either contemporary or of Chinese heritage, as are the artworks that pepper each room. Contemporary European and traditional Chinese paintings and engravings add to the ambience.

Explaining the concept, Mr. Rochon said, “The Regal Red room spells vibrancy, aided by generous doses of black in the furniture and wood panels. The Ming Blue room is both traditional and timeless, and conjures up a sense of nostalgia for the sentimental guest. The Celadon Green scheme instantly creates a bright and cheery first impression, reminding one of the freshness of spring.”

Each of the 20 Club Deluxe and 29 Club rooms opens up to a luxurious armoire (free-standing wardrobe), while each of the 16 Suites (eight with kitchenette) boasts a walk-in wardrobe. The armoire is an oriental art piece with modern functions such as a laptop safe that doubles up as a charger. The interior of each armoire matches that of the room’s colour theme, carrying through Rochon’s designs from the paintings that adorn the walls, to all the individual Chinese antiques on display in the rooms. All furnishings display delightful elements from East and West.

In each room, headboards for the beds in red, blue or green fabric provide the focal point – elegant and pleasing to the eye. Fretworks (wooden panels) on either side of the headboard give an unmistakable Oriental touch.

Designed to reflect the executive lifestyle and provide the luxurious comforts of stylish living, the Signature Club Suites feature separate bedrooms for complete privacy, living rooms with a writing desk and kitchenette that caters for long staying guests’ needs, spacious bathrooms with deluxe amenities and invigorating rain-showers with hydro-massage jets, as well as a LCD TV installed in the wall at the foot of the bathtub for indulgent lounging.

To top it off, each room is equipped with state-of-the-art modern indulgences such as 32-inch LCD TVs which can be connected to a laptop, MP3-compatible Bose Music System with CD player and alarm clock, high-speed wireless broadband, and one-touch control panel for mood lights.

Unique touches include a pillow menu comprising 10 different types/shapes from feather, therapeutic, anti-snore, hypoallergenic, beads, high density foam, cotton to buck wheat; embroidered silk cushions; custom-designed bedspread; Chinese-style lampshades; adjustable reading lights; and 6pm turndown amenities “amuse bouche” (canapé savoury).

Club Lounge

The sophisticated red-and-black colour scheme carries the East-West theme to the Signature Club Lounge on the 18th floor. The convertible private meeting room is a unique and well-executed feature. The open kitchen offers a wide breakfast menu selection, with a personal chef to cater to guests’ individual preferences. Refreshments are served throughout the day.

Guests staying on the Signature Club floors will also be able to enjoy exclusive Signature Club privileges. Savour the traditional English Coddled eggs, once reserved only for royalty, now at the Signature Club Lounge, while another must try is the mouth-watering Muffins and extensive breakfast spread.

Kid's Club

A new Kids’ Club and Hospitality Room has been added to the Orchard Wing which offers activities for children staying in the hotel. Parents can leave their children under the care and supervision of experienced minders. The Hospitality Room is for the exclusive use of in-house guests.

“Orchard Hotel’s Signature Club rooms will serve as the latest benchmark for the hotel group’s new look and services. These will gradually be extended to more M&C hotels in the coming years where applicable, and also to other refurbishment projects in our hotels in gateway cities around the world. This initiative will bring M&C another step closer in our quest to create memorable experiences for our guests.” said Mr Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of the Hong Leong Group, of which City Developments Ltd, M&C Hotels’ parent company, is a member.

“The principally eastern décor is a constant reminder of the heritage of the brand and helps shape a memorable experience for the guest. It marks a new milestone for us…we are thrilled with the results, and are certain that our guests will appreciate the spectacular improvements we’ve made to our guestrooms,” said Mr Eric Brand, General Manager of Orchard Hotel Singapore.
