Business passengers are soon to receive their long wished for morning-evening connection to St. Petersburg following the signing of a codeshare agreement by Finnair and the Russian company Pulkovo Airlines in flights between Helsinki and St. Petersburg.

The agreement, which comes into force from the start of the summer timetable season, Sunday 26 March, means that Finnair can also offer new fast links to St. Petersburg from Scandinavian destinations and elsewhere in Europe

There has been a steady increase in demand for flight connections between Finland and the St. Petersburg area. In addition, cooperation between the airlines will strengthen further Finnair’s Asian strategy, because the flights will offer good transit links from the airline’s Japanese and Chinese destinations to St. Petersburg. Similarly, there will be new connections from St. Petersburg to the Asian routes.

Nowadays an increasing number of Asian customers wish to visit St. Petersburg. Moreover, demand from St. Petersburg to the Far East is continually growing. Currently both Finnair and Pulkovo Airlines have one daily flight between Helsinki and St. Petersburg, and in future these will be operated as codeshare flights.

Finnair’s morning Airbus flight departs from Helsinki at 9.50 am and Pulkovo’s evening Boeing 737 flight departs at 7.55 pm. The flight time to St Petersburg is one hour. The flights depart from St. Petersburg at 12.35 and 7.10 pm.

The number of flights each week to St. Petersburg will grow in May when Finnair begins its own afternoon service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. At the same time, business class will return to all St. Petersburg flights.

The new flight will depart from Helsinki on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm, arriving at 5.55 pm, while on Sundays the departure and arrival times will be half an hour later. From St. Petersburg, the flight departs at 6.30 pm (Sundays 7.25 pm), arriving in Helsinki at 6.20 pm (Sundays 7.20 pm). The flights will be operated with Finnair’s new Embraer 170 series 76-seater jet aircraft.
