Tiger Airways to launch flights to Haikou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen in April 2006

Travel News Asia 22 February 2006

Tiger Airways is planning to launch flights to the Chinese cities of Haikou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen in April this year.

“This marks a new phase in the expansion plans of Tiger Airways as China is a huge country with many business and tourist destinations. The three Chinese cities are very popular destinations with travelers and Tiger Airways is happy to contribute to the growing commercial and tourism ties between Singapore and China by offering our low fares to enable more people to travel more often,” said Tiger Airways CEO, Tony Davis.

Tiger Airways will initially be flying four times a week to Haikou and three times a week to both Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The airline has launched sales of seats to these three destinations (updated 27 February 2006).

Haikou, also known as “the Coconut City” or “Hawaii of the Orient” is the capital of Hainan Province, China’s second largest island. The city has evolved from a simple sightseeing city to an exciting seaside resort and business center today.

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province and known as the “Spring City” because its long summers keeps the city alive the whole year round with green plants and fresh flowers. It is also known as “Yang Cheng” or “Goat City” because of the legend that the city was founded by Five Immortals riding five rams.

Shenzhen is the bustling city of commerce and renowned shopping paradise. Visitors will be able to find many branded name products and local delights such as Nantou Lichee and Nanshan Peaches.
