Top Ten Holiday Tips for Lanta Island - Thailand

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 22 November 2006

The new 185-room Rawi Warin Resort & Spa in Lanta island, Krabi province, southern Thailand, has released a travel agent and consumer fact sheet: "Top Ten Holiday Tips for Lanta Island".

Lanta Island, Lan Ta, which means "dazzled eyes" (reputedly due to the island's dazzling bright sands), is suitable for visitors who want to combine beachside relaxation and dining with nature-based experiences such as hiking, biking, snorkelling and scuba diving.

Lanta island offers world-class maritime activities such as snorkelling at Rok island, scuba diving at Ha island plus hikes to caves, waterfalls and a viewpoint lighthouse in a national park. Lanta island is 24 kms long with 19 main west coast beaches -- eight more than Phuket. It's east coast has two highlights: dramatic vistas to the sheer limestone islands in nearby Trang province, and walking tours through a peaceful and quaint Chinese-Muslim village, Baan See Raya, the former administrative centre of the island.

Ms Napasorn Kakai, Tourism Authority of Thailand director for Krabi, said, "There is now much better road and ferry access to Koh Lanta and the quality and variety of tourism activities on the island has developed in the last few years. The island's main appeal today is still very much for families and couples who appreciate peaceful beaches with eco-style daytrip trips to forests and nearby islands."

The Raw Warin's "Top Ten Holiday Tips for Koh Lanta" fact sheet recommends that you:

- Enjoy great scenic vistas on a drive or bike ride around the island
- Take a day trip to snorkel and swim at Rok island
- Inspect My Kaow "Crystal Wood" Cave
- Hike beside a stream up to Tiger Cave
- Walk the coastal path to the lighthouse on the southern tip of the island
- Inspect the old Lanta capital Baan See Raya and the nearby sea gypsy village
- Eat and drink in Saladan harbour as you watch the ferries and fishing boats come and go
- Take a canoe or longtail boat ride into the mangroves to spot macaque monkeys and eagles
- Enjoy sunset cocktails, followed by a seafood dinner and beach bar hopping on Klong Dao beach
- Go fishing for marlin and sailfish in a longtail boat, early morning or evening.

"We believe the Rawi Warin and Lanta island is a new destination which delivers a high quality southern Thailand family beach experience, but without the crowds, prices and commercial hassles of Phuket or Samui," said Mr Wichit Somboonchoke, Executive Assistant Manager of the Rawi Warin, which opened in December 2005.

"Your vacation starts as soon as we pick you up at Krabi airport. The scenery and the boat ride to the Rawi Warin in Lanta island tells you you have come to a special place," he said.

The Rawi Warin Resort & Spa spread over 38 rai (six hectares) looks out onto the Andaman Sea and has been designed as a family resort. Lanta island is a 60-minute spectacular transfer by road and boat from Krabi airport which is currently connected with direct flights from Bangkok by THAI, Bangkok Airways and AirAsia, and Singapore by Tiger Airways.
