Dubai Aerospace Enterprise to Sponsor Two Key Initiatives at Farnborough International Airshow

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 20 June 2006

Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), a recently launched US$15bn global aerospace company, is to sponsor two key initiatives at this year’s Farnborough International Airshow - the newly introduced International Youth Day and the daily Airshow flying display.

Running from 17th - 23rd July in the United Kingdom, the Farnborough International Airshow, which is expected to attract more than 130,000 visitors, is regarded as one of the largest aerospace exhibitions in the world. The sponsorship of these two key events is part of DAE’s long-term strategy to raise its profile and build relationships amongst key stakeholders from a wide range of global markets.

“This sponsorship allows us to introduce DAE to potential customers at one of the world’s foremost aerospace industry events,” said Dr. Mohammed Al Zarouni, Managing Director, DAE. “The sponsorship of International Youth Day, in particular, is significant for DAE as we seek to make connections with young people who will be integral to the aerospace industry of tomorrow – in Dubai and across the globe.”

The aim of International Youth Day is to provide a programme of events on the final trade day of the show for a specially selected audience of up to 1,250 young people, between the ages of 15 – 23, studying aerospace and engineering related courses. The day is part of a drive to open the minds of young people entering the workforce to the superb opportunities available in the worlds of aerospace, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The young people will be invited to attend the International Youth Day as a reward for achievement by their school, college or sponsoring company.

“We welcome Dubai Aerospace Enterprise as both a new player in the global aerospace industry and also as a new and significant participant at Farnborough,” commented Trevor Sidebottom, Managing Director of Farnborough International Limited - the organisers of the Farnborough International Airshow.

“We are particularly pleased with DAE's strong support for International Youth Day which will give up to 1,250 young people a chance to see the magnitude and potential of the aerospace industry displayed at the show.”

DAE’s inaugural sponsorship of the International Youth Day supports its recently announced DAE University - a specialist aerospace institute and one of the six operational subsidiaries of DAE.

Currently being established in Dubai, DAE University will leverage strategic partnerships with world-renowned international aerospace educational establishments including the UK’s highly respected Cranfield University. Offering a wide range of academic degrees and apprenticeship programmes, the University will be fully developed by 2015, when 8,000 students a year will pass through its doors.

“The DAE University is a major initiative by Dubai and will be one of the world’s leading training facilities for future generations. It is important to be involved in an event like this, which brings together tomorrow’s aerospace leaders and will therefore be a perfect launch pad for our plans,” said Dr. Zarouni.

The daily flying display, which is widely regarded as the highlight of the show, is a fundamental part of Farnborough International Airshow. The display in 2006 will showcase more aircraft than in 2004 and will include the most advanced in both commercial and military design.
