Travel News Asia Wednesday, 19 April 2006

The Kobe Portopia Hotel on the man-made Port Island in Osaka Bay is offering a special package to mark the opening of a new domestic airport serving the marine hub.

The new airport at Kobe nicknamed Marine-Air is just eight minutes from the hotel and promises to significantly boost business, with flights to seven cities in Japan including Tokyo (Haneda) and Sendai.

Celebrating the opening of the airport, the Portopia is offering a "Marine Air Grand Opening Special" until April 30. Depending on room type, single occupancy including breakfast, service charge and tax is priced at 11,000-14,000 yen and double occupancy 10,000-12,000 yen per person.

The Portopia is a multifunctional and futuristic luxury hotel with stunning views of the harbour.

Neighbouring the Kobe International Conference Center and Port Liner Shimin-hiroba Station, the Portopia is just minutes by train from Sannomiya Station and the JR (bullet train) Shin-Kobe Station. Both of which are linked to the new airport by a free shuttle bus. Port Island is connected by bridge to Kobe city.

The train links are an hour from both Kansai and Osaka Itami airports.

With 755 guest rooms on 31 floors, the hotel also features 34 suites, stylish new executive floors and extensive meeting/conference facilities.

The Portopia boasts ten restaurants and two bars, with recreational facilities including indoor and outdoor pools, health centre, gym, sauna and tennis courts.
