Private Island Sanctuary in the Maldives selected to join Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Travel News Asia Thursday, 19 October 2006

The Rania Experience, a private island sanctuary with a luxurious 86-foot GulfCraft Majesty speed yacht in the Maldives, has been selected to join the ‘Small Luxury Hotels of the World’ (SLH) brand, an exclusive collection of over 400 independently-owned high-end boutique hotels in nearly 65 countries.

Named after the word ‘rani’ means queen in the Dhivehi language of the Maldives.

“This is the only experience of its kind in this part of the world to limit bookings for exclusive use targeting couples, friends, family and even the corporate market. Being part of the prestigious SLH brand is a huge achievement for us and will help target the right clientele,” said Vijai Singh, General Manager, The Rania Experience.

“Each year, SLH produces nearly half a million copies of its award-winning directory that features all its members. These are then distributed to qualified travel trade, media and consumers. This is a huge marketing opportunity for us.”

Prior to being selected, prospective hotels are secretly inspected and evaluated with a 20-page report which thoroughly covers all areas of operation. The SLH board of directors then review the property for acceptance. Once a member, the exclusive properties are inspected every other year to ensure they maintain the necessary brand quality.

“The Rania Experience fits our SLH brand perfectly. It’s a holistic escape for discerning clientele, where guest needs are at the core of each stay,” said Lynne Ireland, VP Marketing, Asia Pacific for Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

“We select all our members for their style and sophistication and SLH features award-winning properties including spas, country houses, golf resorts, island retreats, city sanctuaries and game and wilderness lodges.”

The private island has a three bedroom Rania Suite with a living room that is luxuriously designed and three beach villas. Each villa has its own private veranda with sun beds, tropical outdoor showers in its own walled garden.

All rooms have air-conditioning, double vanity bathrooms, rain showers and bath-tubs. They are also fully equipped with a personal bar on demand, satellite television, digital video disc player, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, international dialling, WiFi connection and an electronic safe.

The yacht, Rania, has two double and two twin rooms with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor lounge and dining areas, barbeque, jacuzzi, air-conditioning and a full entertainment system with TV and DVD. It cruises the waters of the Indian Ocean, docking at her own private island approximately 122 kilometres south of the capital Male.

“Each custom-tailored package provides guests exclusive use of the Rania yacht and the island, up to three hours of sailing per day, all dining, drinks, unlimited spa treatments, diving and instruction, snorkelling as well as dive equipment, water sports and boat fuel,” added Singh.

“The natural beauty of our island has been carefully preserved and integrated with all the tastefully decorated rooms and facilities to the give the entire experience a stylish yet residential and private lifestyle feel.”
