Hospitality Investors Group launches HIG India

Travel News Asia 19 January 2006

Hospitality Investors Group’s (HIG) CEO, Frank Orenstein, has launched HIG India in partnership with two highly successful Indian Expatriates, Canadian IT Executive Vasu Chanchlani, President and Co-Founder, Sigma Group of Companies and London based Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Raj Reddy. HIG India will focus on the development of five-star luxury city and resort properties in the country's rapidly growing Real Estate Market.

Commenting on the launch Orenstein said “This partnership places HIG India in a unique position by having the ability to draw on HIG’s already recognized leadership worldwide in luxury hotel and real estate development, as well as benefiting from Mr. Chanchlani and Dr. Reddy’s thorough familiarity with capital markets in India, intimate knowledge of the country and extensive high level contacts both within India itself and in the large Indian communities worldwide.”

Mr. Chanchlani and Dr. Reddy will be responsible for identifying sites and/or existing hotel opportunities to present to HIG India. The role of HIG India will then be to arrange for an agreement with a five-star international hotel operating company most appropriate for each specific project, and then arrange for the actual development of the project.

HIG India has already identified nine potential cities and resorts for five-star luxury hotel development and investment: Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, Ahmedabad, Cochin, and Kolkata.
