KEA Campers to launch New Campervan

Travel News Asia Thursday, 10 August 2006

KEA Campers in Australia has applied its luxury RV designs to the LWB Volkswagen Transporter T5 to create a pop-top campervan that sleeps up to four and doubles as a people mover. The result is a unique recreational vehicle with twice the people capacity of other vehicles of its size, and a range of features that reinvents travelling in a campervan.

The campervan’s front bucket seats swivel to create a common living and dining area, and the pop-top allows plenty of head room to use a kitchen that’s complete with two-burner gas stove, 90L fridge and sink. An aircraft-style flat-screen television with digital reception folds down from the ceiling, with a dvd player in the vehicle’s console allowing travellers to watch movies or listen to music.

The interior can be converted to sleeping quarters in minutes, with two bunk style extra-large double beds that still leave space to stand and move around the kitchen and cabin. The vehicle is air-conditioned and comes with plenty of storage bulkheads to ensure travellers plenty of room.

KEA’s latest campervan is also its most driver-friendly. A six speed automatic transmission and power steering make it a cinch to drive, and a 2.5 turbo diesel engine eclipses the touring vehicles of old in terms of power, reliability and fuel economy. Safety features include ABS brakes, dual airbags and central locking, and the super-light materials used to construct the interior ensure a smooth, unencumbered ride.

“Like the original Kombi, our newest campervan represents freedom and discovery at your own pace – but that’s where the similarities end. We’ve transformed an icon of gamboling getaways into a slick, feature-packed recreational vehicle that is also our most versatile campervan to date,” said KEA International Sales and Marketing Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Richard McKisack.

“This vehicle is equally good for taking a trip or just getting around town. Its flexibility is a real benefit for travellers who want the convenience of a smaller campervan without having to compromise on safety and lifestyle features.”

The new KEA two-plus-two deluxe recreational camper will be available for rental from September 2006 from KEA's nine depots across Australia, including Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

KEA drive packages are available from a selection of wholesalers including Broome and Kimberley Holidays, Discover West Holidays, Leisure World Holidays, NSW Holidays, SA Holidays, Territory Discoveries and Travelpoint.
