Virgin Atlantic launches Credit Card

Travel News Asia Monday, 10 July 2006

Virgin Atlantic has launched its own credit card, with partners American Express and MBNA Europe Bank, enabling cardmembers to earn up to 4 miles for every £1 spent.

The level of benefits for the Virgin Atlantic American Express credit card from MBNA is determined by whether cardmembers choose the White card, which has no annual fee, or the Black card, which has an annual fee of £115 and offers cardmembers even quicker ways to earn miles. All cardmembers will need to be members of Virgin Atlantic’s award-winning loyalty programme, Flying Club, which is open to flyers and non-flyers.

Both the Virgin Atlantic White and the Virgin Atlantic Black cards offer the following key benefits:

• Flying Club miles for each £1 spent (1 mile for White and 2 miles for Black)
• Double miles for each £1 spent direct with Virgin Atlantic or Virgin Holidays (2 miles for White and 4 miles for Black)
• Bonus Flying Club miles on first spend (3,000 for White and 6,000 for Black)
• Complimentary companion reward flights (after £15,000 spend on White and £7500 spend on Black)
• Premium Economy reward upgrade (after £10,000 spend on White and £5,000 spend on Black)
• Additional cardmembers are free and also earn Flying Club miles

By including all spend on either credit card, including petrol, clothing, supermarket shopping or meals, cardmembers can soon earn enough miles to pay for free Virgin Atlantic flights, upgrades or for redeeming with partners, such as Eurostar or bmi.

All Flying Club miles earned through the Virgin Atlantic credit card can even be redeemed for travel on Virgin Galactic spacecraft.

Sir Richard Branson, Chairman, Virgin Atlantic, commented, “Every pound you spend, every day, will take you miles faster with the new Virgin Atlantic credit card. With the option of earning up to quadruple miles, there’s no quicker way of earning enough miles to take you to one of our 27 destinations around the world, or even into space!”
