David Gonski appointed to Singapore Airlines' Board

Mr David Gonski AO, from Sydney, Australia, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Singapore Airlines.

Mr Gonski, 52, is currently the Chairman of the Investec Group in Australia. He is also Chairman of Coca-Cola Amatil, a Director of the ANZ Banking Group and the Westfield Group. He is Chancellor of the University of New South Wales and a consultant to Morgan Stanley Australia.

Mr Gonski is very experienced in the Australian business community, having held numerous directorships. He has had a distinguished career in the law, culminating in his appointment as a Partner of major Australian law firm, Freehill Hollingdale and Page.

He also has made a significant contribution to the Australian community over several decades, especially in the area of the arts, heritage and reform of corporations law. He is currently Chairman of the Australia Council for the Arts, President of the Board of Trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Board of Trustees of the Sydney Grammar School. Reflecting his long-standing commitment to business involvement in the community, he is a Member of the Australian Prime Ministers Community Business Partnership and Chairman of its Taxation Working Group.

Mr Gonski was awarded an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2002 for his service to the community through Australian visual and performing arts organisations, through the development of government policy, and through the promotion of corporate sponsorship for the arts and for charitable organisations. He also received the Centenary Medal in 2003.

Mr Gonski is married with three children. He is a graduate of the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws (including the University Medal for Law), and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Society of Practicing Accountants.

He assumed office as an Independent Director of Singapore Airlines on 9 May 2006.
