Travel News Asia Monday, 10 April 2006

Singapore Airlines has appointed one of India’s most prominent and awarded culinary personalities, Sanjeev Kapoor, to its International Culinary Panel (ICP) of world-renowned chefs.

“Our customers will benefit most with the inclusion of Sanjeev Kapoor to the culinary panel. His creativity and innovation with Indian cuisine will be a welcome addition to the global cuisines already reflected in the ICP’s makeup and add to the variety of menus offered onboard,” said Singapore Airlines Senior Vice-President, Product and Services Mr Yap Kim Wah.

Chef, TV host, author of ten best selling cookbooks, restaurateur and winner of several culinary awards, Sanjeev Kapoor’s innovations in Indian cuisine have made him a household name in India and abroad.

Sanjeev has popularized Indian cooking through his television programme Khana Khazana, one of the longest running cooking programmes in India. First started in 1993, the show now has over a staggering 150 million viewers in 60 countries.

Sanjeev’s cooking philosophy is to make Indian food accessible, allowing the novice cook to recreate any meal, from a Maharaja’s (“King” in English) feast to home cooked dishes, with easy to follow recipes and cooking processes.

Sanjeev has won numerous accolades, among which include the Best Cooking Programme, five times in a row, Best Executive Chef in India by Food and Hotel Service in 1993 and the “Mercury Gold Award” at IFCA Geneva (1993) for "Best Meal Concept and Creation".

His CD-Rom entitled Ode to Indian Cooking has been very well received. His books including Khazana of Indian Recipes, Low Calorie Vegetarian Cookbook, Simply Indian, Konkan Cookbook have received rave reviews.

Sanjeev will join eight existing chefs of international acclaim on the Singapore Airlines ICP in designing distinct signature dishes for Singapore Airlines customers in all classes and on all routes. These master chefs are: Georges Blanc (France), Sam Leong (Singapore), Matthew Moran (Australia), Yoshihiro Murata (Japan), Nancy Oakes (San Francisco, USA), Alfred Portale (New York, USA), Gordon Ramsay (UK) and Yeung Koon Yat (Hong Kong).
