Air Tahiti Nui launches Sydney - Tahiti flights

Travel News Asia 9 July 2005

Air Tahiti Nui, the international airline of Tahiti and Her Islands, today launched its long-awaited nonstop flights from Sydney to Tahiti.

The flights connect immediately in Papeete with the carrier's new nonstop services to New York City, enabling passengers to clear US Customs on arrival in New York, instead of mid-journey in Los Angeles, as currently occurs in most cases.

Air Tahiti Nui will operate two weekly flights from Sydney to Papeete with Airbus A340-300 aircraft.

The airline will fly every Saturday and Monday, with TN 0004 departing Sydney at 09.15, crossing the international dateline and arriving in Papeete just seven hours later at 20.15 the previous evening.

"The introduction of nonstop flights from Sydney to Tahiti will make the destination much more accessible, and much easier to reach for Australians," said Craig Lee, Regional Manager Australia for Air Tahiti Nui. "And there is no easier way to reach New York than with our new one-stop flight from Sydney, which spends just one hour on the ground in Papeete before continuing nonstop to Kennedy Airport."

In addition to its two weekly nonstop flights to Tahiti, Air Tahiti Nui will continue to offer three weekly code share flights via Auckland, with Qantas operating trans Tasman flights and Air Tahiti Nui operating from Auckland to Papeete.
