5th Abacus International Conference to be held in Sanya, Hainan Island, China

Abacus today confirmed that Sanya, on Hainan Island, Republic of China, will be the venue for the 5th Abacus International Conference (AIC) from 7 – 10 September 2005.

The conference will see over 500 of Abacus’ top travel agents and partners from the 22 Asia Pacific markets attending.

This year’s theme is ‘Moving Asia’, reflecting the momentum of travel growth and the dynamic travel environment in Asia.

The conference programme will include plenary and workshop sessions. With 20 booths exhibiting the latest in travel solutions technology, services and products, travel agents will have ample opportunity to be updated on the latest trends and industry directions. The conference programme aims to be stimulating and inspiring, with a focus on networking, learning and fun.

Recreational events including golf tournaments, sightseeing trips and shopping tours will also be organised for the delegates. During the conference, Abacus will hold it’s annual Awards Ceremony to honour and recognise its top travel agents in the region.

“Each conference has been more successful than the last, due to the support and participation of the delegates, sponsors and exhibitors,” said Don Birch, President and CEO of Abacus International. “We look forward to seeing our travel agents and partners at what looks to be the biggest AIC yet.”

The first AIC conference was held in Singapore 1995 as a trade event for Abacus-connected travel agents and partners. In 1997 the AIC was held in Bali, with Hong Kong the host in 2000, followed by Thailand in 2002. 

“China will be the driver of travel growth throughout the region in the foreseeable future, and Sanya seemed like the perfect location to host AIC 2005,” said Mr Birch. “By holding the conference in Hainan Island, we are not only providing support to a developing China tourism destination, but also giving our travel agents and partners an opportunity to discover the beauty of Sanya first hand.”

Sanya is commonly known as the tropical paradise of China, with warm sun, sparkling blue seas and clear white sand which combine to make the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday or business conference.
