Meritus Negara to re-launch in September 2005

Travel News Asia 6 August 2005

The newly-refurbished Meritus at Claymore, located next to Orchard Road, is set to re-launch from early September 2005 following a $3.5 million facelift of the main lobby, meeting facilities, guestrooms, and suites. The project also includes upgrading the restaurant, AV equipment, and guest amenities.

The facelift, led by renowned Italian architect Marco Corti of Colombo & Associates, gives the new Lobby a refreshing and welcoming atmosphere. Leveraging on simplicity and the use of clever ambient lighting, the new decor will encompass both classic and modern elements; the classic, reflecting the hotel's tradition of Asian grace, warmth and care while the modern, embodying the luxury and sophistication expected by today's travellers.

The Lobby refurbishment will also involve the personalised Reception Desks, Business Centre, Lobby Lounge, and the Meritus Club Lounge – an exclusive open-concept lounge for Meritus Club guests. Both lounges will be furnished with B&B Italia designer furniture. The modern details of the design include black glass, dark marble, chic designer furnishings, and lighting combined with the classic touches of warm wood wall panelling and flooring, and antique ceramic show pieces.

The refurbishment of guestrooms and suites – directed by DP Design (the design arm of DP Architects) – will include flat-panel LCD TVs with laptop connectivity.

Meritus at Claymore is nestled in a prestigious enclave a minute's walk from Orchard Road with embassies, shopping and leisure facilities, and an MRT Station in its vicinity.

With just 198 rooms, the hotel aims to provide a highly intimate and personalised level of service to guests. With the completion of the refurbishment, guests can also expect quality amenities such as finer linen and premium toiletries. More benefits and conveniences like personalised rooming, express check-in, and free broadband Internet access are also in the scope of the plans.
