Courtyard by Marriott brand to make Thailand debut

Travel News Asia 6 July 2005

Marriott is to introduce its moderately priced Courtyard brand to Thailand under a management agreement with The Erawan Group for the 316-room Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok. Scheduled to open in 2007, the hotel will be the fourth property in Bangkok to fly a Marriott brand flag and the eighth hotel in Thailand for Marriott.

The Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok will be located on Soi Mahadlekluang, a quiet road in the Rajadamri area of Bangkok. Bangkok International Airport is approximately a 30 minutes drive away. The hotel is in the vicinity of fashionable restaurants, retail shops, office centers, embassies and diplomatic missions. Bangkok’s elevated light-rail system, which offers easy access to the rest of the city, is also just a short walk from the hotel.

“The continued expansion of our portfolio in Bangkok is very heartening on two levels,” said Ed Fuller, president & managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “We are delighted to have our second property in Bangkok with the Erawan Group. The Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok is evidence of the strong relationship forged since the opening of the JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok. We are also thrilled to soon be able to offer travelers to Bangkok four different lodging brands, giving them a choice in lodging at a variety of price points and types of hotel experience.”

The largest of Marriott’s 14 lodging brands in terms of units, Courtyard by Marriott hotels are targeted at the upper-moderate and lower-upscale business traveler segments and provides services and accommodations these consumers value most, such as functionality, safety and comfort. The brand is focused on the guest room and its in-room amenities, while public spaces are open and bright, offering casual ambience, a welcoming environment, comfortable gathering places and good food.

For dining and entertainment, the Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok will have a casual restaurant, a lobby lounge and a bar. Recreational amenities will include an outdoor swimming pool and a health and fitness center. Other amenities will include a business center and a sundry shop.

For social events and conferences, the hotel will offer 390 square meters of function space comprised of two meeting rooms, each capable of being divisible into three sections.
