AWAIR to launch flights to Singapore, Bali and Surabaya

AirAsia's sister airline, AWAIR, is to commence service between Singapore and Jakarta beginning 19th January 2005.

AirAsia has a 49% stake in AWAIR, a privately owned airline in Indonesia, which was relaunched as a low fare, no frills airline, to serve domestic and international routes out of its hub at Terminal 1A, Soekarno – Hatta International Airport, Jakarta.

AWAIR presently operates flights to Medan and Balikpapan from Jakarta and the airline expects to receive its 2nd Boeing 737-300 on 7th January 2005. Besides Singapore, which is the airline’s first international destination since its launch in December 2004, AWAIR will also be introducing 2 new domestic services – Bali, and Surabaya. All flights will depart from/to Jakarta.

Seats for the new flights are available for sale from 5th January 2005.

Sendjaja Widjaja, President Director, AWAIR, said, “We are thrilled to receive our 2nd Boeing 737-300. The new addition allows us to expand operations to meet the strong demands from the market for low fare travel.

AWAIR had commenced operations in Indonesia with flights to Medan and Balikpapan on 8th December 2004. Now one month into our operations, we are adding 2 new domestic route and an international one connecting Jakarta and Singapore. These new additions will serve to enhance our connectivity to bring people together, while trade and tourism prosper between Indonesia and Singapore.”

Beginning 9 January 2005, AWAIR will operate one daily flight between Jakarta and Surabaya, while its Jakarta -Denpasar (Bali) route will be served with two daily flights. To commemorate the two new services, AWAIR is offering special launch fares from Rp 49.000 one way for its Jakarta – Denpasar (Bali) sector. Regular fares start from Rp. 129.000 one way. Meanwhile, special launch fares for Jakarta –Surabaya will start from Rp 39.000 one way, with regular fares beginning from Rp 99.000 one way.

AWAIR’s maiden international flight to Singapore will commence on 19 January 2005. It will initially be served with one daily flight from AWAIR’s hub at Soekarno-Hatta Internaitonal Airport in Jakarta. Special launch fares begin from Rp99.000 / SGD 19.99 one way.

To enjoy the special launch fares, seats must be purchased from 5th January to 18th January 2005. Travel period for these special launch fares are valid until 26th March 2005.
