AirAsia and Malaysian Red Crescent Society sign MoU

Travel News Asia 3 August 2005

The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has signed a principal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AirAsia.

The MoU will see the establishment of a close working relationship and cooperation between the parties in the areas related to the provision of humanitarian relief and emergency response services in the event of disaster and other crisis, including first aid services, humanitarian relief operations and emergency response that may occur in the ASEAN region, at destinations served by AirAsia.

In addition to the MoU, MRCS will team up with the AirAsia Academy to provide First Aid Training and other related courses to equip AirAsia’s staff and personnel in carrying out their roles and duties under the Airport Emergency Plan and their Emergency response Teams requirements.

Dato’ Pahamin A. Rajab, Chairman, AirAsia Berhad said, “AirAsia is proud to be Malaysia Red Cresent Society’s partner providing humanitarian relief and emergency response in the event of a crisis . The partnership is in line with our corporate responsibity to society and the community. It is our hope that the aid rendered by AirAsia, would serve to support MRCS’s mission in the protection and preservation of life during catastrophes and tragedies, and in averting potential disasters.”

The Malaysian Red Crescent Society is a non-profit organization incorporated by an Act of Parliament. Though the society is an auxiliary to the government in humanitarian services, the society depends entirely on donations from corporations and individuals to finance humanitarian services.

The society is one of 181 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies throughout the world and is a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
