Travel News Asia 3 November 2005

Starwood has opened a new 438-room hotel in the center of Paris, The Westin Paris.

One of the National Treasures of France's Second Empire dating back to the mid-19th century, The Westin Paris offers an enviable location, on the edge of the Tuileries Gardens, and only steps away from the famous Place de la Concorde and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore.

In celebration of the hotel's opening, The Westin Paris is currently offering special opening rates from US$298 per room/night valid until February 28, 2006.

"This hotel is a dream come true for Westin, as central Paris has been a strategic target for the brand for many years," said Roeland Vos, President of Starwood's Europe, Africa and Middle East division. "We are honored to be appointed by GIC Real Estate, a premier global real estate owner, to be the operator of this historic landmark hotel and look forward to restoring this gem to its rightful position in the City of Light."

Guestrooms treat visitors to stunning views of the Tuileries Gardens, the hustle and bustle of the picturesque street-life in the Place Vendome or the serenity and tranquility of the hotel's private patios.

For fine dining options, The Westin Paris also features 234 Rivoli, a signature gourmet restaurant, tempting the palette with dishes prepared in the hallmark of great French culinary tradition, which in summer, expands to include a seasonal offering on the hotel's famous Terrasse Fleurie. Bar Tuileries offers guests the opportunity to meet with friends for cocktails in an atmosphere of casual understated elegance.

The Westin Paris, formerly the Intercontinental Paris, will undergo a $14 million renovation that will provide guests with the brand's distinctive and innovative products to be completed by first quarter 2006. Westin's Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath will grace every guestroom, and the hotel will also feature the recently launched, fully-equipped WestinWORKOUT Rooms offering guests the option to work out in the privacy of their own rooms.

The Westin Paris offers a total of 21,500 square feet of meeting space including 12 conference salons and a 4,300 square-foot Imperial Ballroom. Accommodating up to 900 people, the 12 meeting rooms are ideal for large-scale venues ranging from haute couture fashion shows to intimate dinners.
