Extreme Explorer Bruce Kirkby to Address ASTA’s World Travel Congress

Travel News Asia 2 September 2005

Extreme explorer, adventurer and photographer Bruce Kirkby is to address delegates during the general session on 7 November at ASTA's 75th World Travel Congress in Montréal. Kirkby will appear courtesy of Auto Europe.

“We are so excited that Auto Europe has signed Bruce Kirkby as one of our featured speakers,” said Deb Mangas, CTC, chair of ASTA’s 2005 World Travel Congress. “He has an intimate knowledge of a broad range of travel to places most of us can only dream. From his treks he has learned a great many lessons about teamwork, leadership, perseverance and organizational skills. Lessons we will be able to apply to our daily lives.”

“It is a great pleasure for Auto Europe to be part of bringing Bruce Kirkby to address the delegates at the ASTA World Congress in Montréal,” said Peter Rasmussen, senior vice president for sales and marketing of Auto Europe. “I know that we will be inspired, educated and entertained by the stories, lessons and experiences he will share with us from his expeditions. Bruce certainly knows a thing or two about planning, preparation and execution that we hopefully can learn from and apply in our daily lives, both professionally and personally.”

Kirkby is the Editor-at-Large at Outpost Magazine, and his writing has appeared in TIME, The Globe and Mail, and The National Post. His first book, Sand Dance, By Camel Across Arabia’s Great Southern Desert, spent 14 weeks on the National Bestseller List. In addition to his writing, his photography has appeared in Outside, Men’s Fitness, American Photo, Explore and Maclean's. National Geographic Television produced three documentaries featuring his adventures, and they recently selected his images from Arabia as some of the most riveting photographs of the past decade.

When not leading trips to the world’s most remote and exotic locations, Kirkby is dedicated to aiding children’s education. He regularly visits local classrooms. An online study program he designed received 5 million hits from students in more than 20 countries. The Globe and Mail honored him as one of the young Canadians expected to make a difference in the future of Canada.
