Per Aquum to develop and manage its first resort in the Seychelles

Travel News Asia 2 August 2005

Per Aquum Resorts & Spas is to develop and manage an ecofriendly luxury tent resort on Anse Grand Barbe on the western coast of Silhouette Island, Seychelles. The lease to the site has been granted by the government of Seychelles and Per Aquum will start planning construction immediately, with commencement of building works early 2006.

The resort will highlight the vibrant Creole culture of the Seychelles and the rich natural environment of Silhouette Island. Per Aquum plans to invest over US$22 million to create an experience that immerses guests in original luxury – 41 designer tent villas enshrouded in lush jungle.

Ecologically sensitive and conservation-driven, the resort will showcase Grande Barbe’s natural diversity to guests, raising awareness and helping to preserve this world treasure for future generations. The retreat will operate on the principle of maximising guest satisfaction while responsibly minimising disruption to the environment.

Reaching into the sky, a treetop spa will offer guests therapies ranging from international treatments to indigenously inspired massages. Far below, an underground network of wine cellars will allow guests another original way to experience the destination. On-site organic gardens will grow fresh produce for the resorts’ two restaurants. Local chefs will share their expertise with a team of international chefs, bringing guests the flavours of Creole cuisine and other healthy gourmet selections from the international culinary world.

Nick Downing, currently General Manager of the successful Huvafen Fushi resort in the Maldives, will oversee the pre-opening phases of the Grande Barbe project. Downing possesses extensive experience guiding the pre-opening phases of resorts. He played a key role in the construction and design of Huvafen Fushi, living onsite throughout to oversee the contractors and designers and ensure the smooth running of the operation.

Tom McLoughlin, Managing Director of Per Aquum Resorts & Spas said, “The Grand Barbe project will be Per Aquum’s first resort in the Seychelles and we will be investing over US$22 million to bring this experience of primal luxury to life. As with all our properties, the experience will be delivered through the Per Aquum Difference: a combination of passion, naturally modern design, devoted staff and emphasis on results. In addition to generating phenomenal guest experiences, the resort will offer unprecedented returns on investment for owners and shareholders.”

Per Aquum Resorts & Spas is a specialist resort and spa management company that devotes itself to delivering unique experiences in desired locations in the Indian Ocean and Asia. Current resorts and spas are found in the Maldives, Sri Lanka and now Seychelles. The company is exploring other opportunities for expansion in Thailand, India, Malaysia and the Middle East.
