The ‘Preserve Hua Hin Group’ in collaboration with Chiva-Som International Health Resort as well as government and private organizations which care for the environment is organising a ‘Preserve Hua Hin Walk, Run, and Bike’ on Sunday, May 8, 2005, 4:30am-9:00am in Hua Hin, Prachuab Khirikhan.

The event comprises a 21.5-km run, 8.5-km run, 33-km mountain biking, 8.5-km biking, and 4.5-km walk. There will be also cheerleading contests along the running and biking tracks. The purpose of the event is to promote awareness and co-operation in keeping Hua Hin’s environment pristine. The event is also expected to emphasize the importance of environment preservation, encourage people to exercise for health, and to raise funding for the activities of Preserve Hua Hin Group. More than 2,000 people are expected to participate in the activities. The start and finish line for running and biking is on ‘Hin Lek Fai Hill’, while walking will start from ‘Pone Kingpet’ park and finish on Hin Lek Fai Hill. Most activities will be on the main roads in Hua Hin.

The event will raise funds for solving garbage and waste water problems in the Hua Hin Municipality. This year’s event is a continuation of the ‘Save Hua Hin Run’ activity which was organized in May last year.

Krip Rojanastien, Preserve Hua Hin Group Chairman, said, “Our aim is to raise capital to support activities for environmental preservation in Hua Hin in complementary to the government budget. The fund will also support activities for preserving the beauty of the beaches and systematic treatment for waste water.”

Mr. Krip added that the need for preserving the environment which is becoming increasingly fragile has never been so important. “We expect participation of both Thai and non-Thai residents in local areas in this event. Participants can enjoy activities for health and relaxation muscles and a variety of food from leading resorts in Hua Hin,” he said.

The Preserve Hua Hin Group aims to establish the activities as an annual sports event for people form all walks of life.
