Search ASIA Travel Tips .com 24 May 2005

Qatar Airways is increasing frequency on its Doha – Muscat route next month with two extra scheduled flights over the weekend to cope with the summer rush.

Capacity is being increased from nine flights a week to 11 between Doha, capital of the State of Qatar, and the Omani capital, respectively.

The extra services, effective from June 17, will be operated by Airbus A320s in a two-class configuration of 12 in First Class and 132 in Economy.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the additional flights would help serve both business and leisure travellers.

“Muscat is a key regional market for Qatar Airways with plenty of passengers travelling to and from Oman on business or leisure, or to catch onward connections to rest of the world from Qatar,” he said.

“We are extremely pleased to be providing passengers with additional travel benefits and look forward to increasing capacity even further on the Muscat route as and when demand permits and extra aircraft capacity is available.”

Oman has a thriving economy with oil being its main industry, while agriculture and fishing are key sources of income for much of the population. Tourism is now also rapidly emerging as one of Oman’s key industries.
