Le Parker Méridien Palm Springs Opens

Travel News Asia 24 February 2005

Following a multi-million dollar refurbishment the US resort once known as Gene Autry’s Melody Ranch, and most recently as the Givenchy Spa has re-opened as Le Parker Méridien Palm Springs.

Located only two hours from Los Angeles this 13 acre, 144-room estate, has been recreated for those in search of luxury combined with fun and elegance.

Designed by famous New York interior designer and potter, Jonathan Adler, Le Parker Méridien Palm Springs is this designer’s first commercial project. Adler refers to his design as “hippie chic”, yet it has all the luxuries of a five-star resort, juxtaposing old-world charm with modern amenities.

From the moment guests arrive at this desert oasis, their comfort and relaxation starts with a “no” check-in policy. Each guest is greeted at their car door and escorted to their room. The resort’s telephones are equipped with only one number “0” and with just one call the guests’ requests are dealt with.

There are 144-rooms including 12 private one bedroom Villas and the Gene Autry residence – a luxurious two bedroom freestanding home complete with living room, dining room, full kitchen and private lanai.

Each guest bathroom is stocked with top of the range amenities including: Hermès soap, Molton Brown bath and shower gel, Erno Lazlo body lotion, Penhaligon Quercus shampoo and conditioner, L’Occitane hand soap, Peter Thomas Roth sun block and of course, Blistex.

The resort is home to two restaurants; Norma’s (of New York fame) an all day upscale diner specialising in breakfast food served indoors or on an outdoor terrace; and Mister Parker’s a wood paneled, dinner only, brasserie. At Norma’s guests can enjoy lemon griddle cakes, chocolate and banana waffles or the special “Zillion Dollar Frittata” with lobster and 10 ounces of sevruga caviar. Signature dishes at Mister Parker’s include fresh oysters, sautéed shrimps and lingune del mare.

There is a glamorous 16,500 square foot spa – the Palm Springs Yacht Club – offering a range of massage and body treatments; private men’s and women’s indoor swimming pools, Jacuzzis, steam and sauna rooms as well as a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness centre.

Guests can enjoy four European red clay tennis courts, two pétanque courts, two outdoor and two indoor pools, a croquet lawn, a variety of gardens, an executive golf course, a 6,000 square foot banquet hall, meeting rooms, and a helipad.

Le Parker Méridien Palm Springs offers a variety of amenities and services including: complimentary Moroccan Tea, “coffee” wake-up calls, DVD Library, full service Beauty Salon, CD/DVD/MP3 player in each room, twice daily maid service, laundry service, 24-hour room service, free wireless Internet access and luscious feather beds.

A special promotional opening rate of £105 including tax per room per night is valid until the end of March 2005.
