Mandarin Oriental, Tokyos tasteful interiors by Singapore-based LTW Design Works, and innovative textiles by Japans Nuno Corporation, set a contemporary mood that also celebrates Japans timeless artisanship. Deluxe Rooms juxtapose walnut flooring with carpeting, and feature original textile wall coverings akin to washi rice paper. The more expansive Grand Rooms feature textured sisal carpets, reminiscent of tatami matting in the raised sleeping area, while wooden paths of bamboo accented by artisanal throw rugs delineate functional spaces. All rooms feature a built-in walnut unit, vanity, large minibar, 45 inch flat screen television, generous storage space and desk. Bamboo features in the marquetry of the bed headboards, while organically textured cushions, lacquered boxes and the warm, soft light emanating from the washi lampshades further emphasizes the Japanese theme and sense of place.

In addition to the customary amenities of a Mandarin Oriental Hotel, each room is equipped with the latest entertainment technology and high-speed, wireless Internet access. Bathrooms are sun-filled, with thoughtfully placed sliding mirrors that capture views from the main windows to enjoy while soaking in the tub. Laundry, dry cleaning and shoes in need of polishing may be placed in a special compartment of the spacious vestibule that is accessed, with a key, by staff from the hallway outside, thereby ensuring uninterrupted privacy.

To celebrate its opening the hotel is offering introductory room rates that begin at JPY 48,000 effective through to 28 February 2006. The rate is exclusive of government tax and 10% service charge. Rates are subject to availability. Certain blackout dates apply.
