Sydney hosts 18th World Congress of Neurology

Travel News Asia 23 November 2005

The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre became the nerve centre for more than 5000 neurologists this month as it hosted Sydney’s largest meeting for the year, the 18th World Congress of Neurology.

The event attracted 5200 delegates from more than 100 countries and used all of the Centre’s conference facilities as well as three of its exhibition halls.

The Sydney event was the first time the Congress had been held in Australia.

During the five-day event (November 7-11), delegates enjoyed the sights of Sydney with a program that included harbour cruises, waterfront dining and a symphony performance at the Sydney Opera House.

Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said the event had clearly demonstrated the venue’s world-class facilities as well as Sydney’s professional meetings infrastructure.

“We’ve had wonderful feedback from delegates, who were clearly very impressed with Sydney,” Mr van Amerongen said.

In addition to hosting the Congress’ many meeting sessions, the Centre also organised a cocktail party for 3000 delegates in two of its exhibition halls.

The Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau won the 18th World Neurology Congress for Sydney in 2001.
