The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Miami launches 'Kundalini Journey'

Travel News Asia 22 September 2005

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Miami has launched a 'Kundalini Journey', an innovative treatment combining the power of aromatherapy and advanced massage techniques with gemstone therapy to achieve an enhanced level of physical and mental relaxation.

“The concept of Kundalini comes from Yogic philosophy and refers to energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine,” said Catherine Davalle, spa training manager. “This treatment is designed to help awaken the Kundalini and allow energy to flow through the entire body. Muscles become relaxed, tensions disappear, the mind is calm and the body is ready to tap into this new force.”

Azure blue color lights welcome clients to the calming spa environment. The therapeutic treatment begins as the client chooses a semi-precious stone most appealing to their senses from onyx, carnelian, turquoise to pink quartz, sodalite, clear quartz and amethyst. The selected stone indicates the areas of the body and mind that need the most attention and allows the therapist to provide a deeply personalized treatment.

Semi-precious stones radiate calming energy and are placed on each of the seven chakras (focal point of life energy in Hindu philosophy), from the top of the head to the soles of the feet. The gemstones are placed as follows:

Onyx Root Chakra Physical needs and security, governs material world
Carnelian Sacral Chakra Emotions, Desires, Sexuality
Turquoise Solar Plexus Chakra Energy, governing will, self esteem
Pink Quartz Heart Chakra Love, Forgiveness, Compassion
Sodalite Throat Chakra Communication
Amethyst Third Eye Chakra Intuition, Reasoning
Clear Quartz Crown Chakra Spirituality and Understanding

Using Mandarin Oriental’s signature “Oriental Body Oil,” a blend of aromatic Frangipani, Jasmine and Mandarin essential oils, the therapist continues the Kundalini Journey with a soothing, deep free-flowing body massage using advanced massage techniques, releasing tension and restoring vitality. Melodious sounds from a ceremonial Tibetan bowl will signal the end of this energizing, stress-relieving massage. As a keepsake memento of the experience, guests will depart with an exquisite semi-precious gemstone necklace fashioned by Miami designer Cynthia Lynn.

The Kundalini Journey lasts 80 minutes and costs US$ 240.
