Australian
Airlines has added new artwork to its fleet of five Boeing 767-300 aircraft to promote the airline’s sponsorship of the Australian Pavilion at
World Expo 2005 in Japan.
The logo for the Australian Pavilion and the words "Australia at AICHI World Expo Japan 2005" have been painted on both sides of the fuselage.
The artwork will remain in place until the end of World Expo on 25 September 2005.
Australian Airlines Chief Executive Andrea Staines said 15 million people were expected to visit the expo in Aichi, Nagoya.
“Australian Airlines is flying the flag for World Expo 2005, which opens on Good Friday, and is proud to be a leadership sponsor of the Australian Pavilion which will
showcase the uniqueness of Australia to the world,” Ms Staines said.
“This is the first time Australian Airlines has added artwork, which is known as a decal in the aviation industry, to its aircraft,” she said. “The process takes two
signwriters about two hours to apply each decal.
“The fifth and final aircraft had the artwork applied yesterday and will begin flying from today.”
Ms Staines said Australian Airlines offered daily, non-stop flights from Cairns to Nagoya, which is the home of World Expo, with international connections from the Gold
Coast and Sydney and from the rest of Australia on Qantas.
“As well as inspiring more holidaymakers to come to Australia, we look forward to carrying people from around Australia to World Expo over the next six months,” she
said.
“Visitors to the Australian Pavilion will have the opportunity to purchase Australian Airlines merchandise including baseball caps, bucket caps and model aircraft.”
Australia is one of 119 countries and eight international organisations participating in World Expo 2005.
