The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is to release a new Mandarin version of the song “Uniquely You” sung by Singaporean artiste Joi Chua. Joi, together with local singer Wendi Koh, who will perform a special bilingual version of “Uniquely You” at Singapore's National Day concert, accompanied by more than 3,000 members of the Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADEAF) singing the lyrics of the song.

Each single will retail at S$8 with S$5 from each single going to the SADEAF. The single is marketed and distributed by Play Music, and will be available at all major music stores in Singapore from today, 21 July 2005.

“STB’s objectives in this project are two-fold. First, we hope that the song will invoke in all listeners the warmth and connection that they feel to a place that is first and foremost unique to us - our Singapore. When we are proud and passionate about our home, we become good “ambassadors” - enthusing our overseas friends and relatives to come experience this unique island state for themselves. Our other objective is to support the Singapore Association for the Deaf. By supporting the single, listeners will also benefit our fellow Singaporeans who are disadvantaged,” said Bill Ang, Director Brand Management, STB.

In March 2004, the STB launched the original English version of “Uniquely You” as part of the “Uniquely Singapore” brand launch. Originally written by Ken Low, composer of the musicals Chang & Eng and The Admiral’s Odyssey, the lyrics of the Mandarin version were adapted by lyricist Liang Wenfu. Targeted at fans and followers of Chinese pop music in Singapore, the song pays tribute to Singaporeans and the special moments shared with their loved ones in the city-state. The music video captures this essence through a love story that features Joi as a professional photographer who, in the midst of capturing the colourful sights of Singapore, has unique encounters with a person who eventually becomes her special someone.
