Tony Chi Designed SKYLOFTS open at MGM Grand in Las Vegas

Travel News Asia 21 March 2005

Internationally acclaimed designer, Tony Chi, has taken luxury accommodation in Las Vegas to an entirely new level, both literally and figuratively, with the launch earlier this year of SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand.

SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand is a totally innovative and exciting hotel experience created for modern and sophisticated travellers who expect the best wherever they go, enjoy art and outstanding design and importantly, have the incomes to match their desires.

Located on the top two floors of the hotel (29 and 30), SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand offers Tony Chi-designed lofts with one-to-three bedrooms that are the ultimate in luxury. Described by some as “urban chic above the Strip” the SKYLOFTS are modeled on New York-style lofts and offer expansive views of the Las Vegas skyline.

According to designer Chi, his unique and attractive SKYLOFTS are “creative urban spaces, a first city environment, and a piece of New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, London re-created to fit the dynamic and energetic Las Vegas environment of MGM Grand.

“Where luxury was once defined as gold leaf and marble, there is now modern furniture, art, electronics and accessories from some of the world’s top designers and manufacturers, instantly recognisable to anyone in the targeted market,” he says.

“First City” Spaces

He describes a "first city” environment as being creative and dynamic, urban and sophisticated, with the new, the bold and the fresh intermingling with the elegance and history of the city.

All SKYLOFTS have sculptures in the pre-Columbian style, original pop art, in-loft espresso machines, a second TV behind the bath mirror, infinity jacuzzis, and butler service.

Within each loft, the SKYLOFT’S radio-controlled remote panels enable guests to operate features throughout the loft, including TV, DVD, radio, drapes, temperature and lights, from one remote control system.

Tony Chi has designed the SKYLOFTS so they are all space, light and luxury, for those who want room to move. The largest lofts are a three bedroom, three bathroom loft-style apartment with a large gallery foyer, extended living room, luxurious dining room, comfortable bar and den area, and a billiard room.

His key features include the grand entrance though timber double doors and an ornate portico. Their high, almost cathedral, ceilings make for a vertical design emphasis with its ivory, beige, grey and black colour scheme, including blond and black wood highlights.

The whole look is enhanced by the attractive lighting, including dark shades and modern chandeliers.

The loft’s furnishings are modern, artistic and attractive to the eye. Luxurious couches in beige, black or grey, metal and timber chairs and bar stools, minimalist black coffee tables and shelving, walk-in wardrobes in black or blond timber all add to the effect.

So, too, do the living area accessories (including coffee machine, bar and audio visual system) and the classic bathroom amenities especially The Immersion Chamber (shower technology with waterfall, steam and rain).

The SKYLOFTS range in size from one bedroom to three bedrooms, or from 1,400 to 6,000 square feet.
