Abacus enables E-Ticketing on Royal Brunei Airlines

Travel News Asia 21 December 2005

Abacus International has launched an electronic ticketing (e-ticketing) service for Royal Brunei Airlines for travel agents in Asia Pacific markets.

Abacus-connected travel agents in Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Philippines are now able to issue e-tickets for travel on Brunei’s national carrier, Royal Brunei Airlines.

“The recent enabling of e-ticketing for Royal Brunei Airlines is a boon especially with the current year-end peak holiday travel season. This partnership with Abacus will enable our customers to enjoy a fast, flexible and convenient option to the regular paper tickets. With e-tickets, our customers also feel safer as they need not worry about losing their tickets during this holiday rush,” said Hjh Sukinah bte Hj Gani, e-Commerce Manager from Royal Brunei Airlines.

E-ticketing continues to gain in popularity throughout Asia Pacific, particularly in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Malaysia markets. Some 4.32 million e-tickets have been issued to date this year on the Abacus system, which is an increase of 73% over the same period last year.

“Abacus is seeing a trend towards paper-free travel in Asia with more technology-savvy travellers opting for e-tickets. Paper tickets really are becoming a thing of the past, with travellers opting for the hassle-free ease and security of electronic tickets. Abacus has seen a 35% increase in the number of e-tickets issued in our e-ticket enabled markets in November over the same period last year,” said Mr See-Toh Hon Chew, Vice-President, Air Content Associates at Abacus International.

“E-ticketing continues to be a very efficient and cost-effective travel option for not only the travellers, but also the travel agents and the airlines due to their booking flexibility and increased security,” added Mr See-Toh.

In the upcoming months, e-ticketing for Royal Brunei Airlines will also be rolled out in the Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesian markets.
