Travel News Asia 20 September 2005

Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts is expanding into Ukraine’s capital Kiev with the opening of a 255 room hotel.

The new property is located in the diplomatic area of picturesque downtown Kiev. The owners of the project are Rezidor SAS Hospitality (10%), EBRD (30 %), and Raiffeisen Management Investment (60%).

The Radisson SAS Hotel, Kiev will focus primarily on business travellers and corporate clients. The hotel offers 255 spacious guestrooms, including 150 standard, 83 Business Class and 22 suites which are furnished in three styles: Scandinavian, Maritime, and Italian. The in-room amenities include modem port, satellite television, in-house movies, coffee/tea-machine, trouser press, safe and hairdryer.

The property has two restaurants, the 85-seater Bistro Coté Est, offering modern international cuisine, and a 50-seater Mille Miglia Ristorante & Enoteca serving fine Italian dining. The hotel’s cigar bar, K Largo, in the lobby is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and snack after a busy day of meetings or touring the city.

Fitness and relaxation facilities include a 245 square metre fitness club, Pace, featuring a fitness area, solarium, massage room, Finnish sauna and steam bath next to the indoor relaxation area with comfortable loungers.

The state-of-the-art conference facilities, covering up to 407 square metres, can accommodate meetings or dinner banquets of any type or scale. The hotel offers a main conference room called the Embassy Suite - 203 square metres of space with capacity for up to 230 quests in theatre set-up, 150 guests for banquets and 250 guests for cocktail receptions, and four smaller board rooms.

Radisson SAS Kiev comprises two buildings, dating back to 1882 and 1903. Both sites have a rich history; one of them once belonged to the Talberg family, depicted by Bulgakov in his famous novel ‘White Guard’.

The original design, heavily influenced by the eclecticism of the early 20th century, brought the building the status of Monument of Architecture, thus the original design of the façade is carefully preserved. The Radisson SAS Kiev project was developed by A. Pashenko Architect Studio with S. Zdorenko as main architect.

The city of Kiev is famous for its numerous parks, gold-domed churches and tremendous views over the Dnepr river. One of the most ancient of cities with over 1500 years of history, Kiev is a modern European city where legendary traditions successfully combine with the dynamism of the newly-independent nation's capital city. Kiev is extremely rich in world-famous architectural and historical sites and with its numerous parks and gardens, it is famed for being one of the greenest cities in the world.

One of the fastest-growing cities with a population of over four million, the city represents the heart of the political, cultural, scientific and industrial life in today's Ukraine, providing as well numerous and varied possibilities for first-class entertainment.
