Finnair to launch flights to Geneva in summer 2006

Search ASIA Travel Tips .com 20 July 2005

Finnair is to launch daily direct flights between Helsinki and Geneva from June 2006.

The direct daily Helsinki-Geneva flights are made possible with Finnair's newest aircraft acquisition, the 76 seat Embraer 170 which is ideal for this type of medium distance route. The first Embraer will join the Finnair fleet at the end of September.

"We expect demand for the Geneva flights not only from Finland but further East, as the route has excellent connections to our Asian network and the city is a long-standing favourite with Japanese passengers, for instance. Geneva is also an important business destination," explained Finnair VP Network Strategies and Management Petteri Kostermaa.

Geneva is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe and a must for style-savvy shoppers. The city, surrounded by France on three sides, is known for its gourmet restaurants and is only a two-hour car or train ride from the Swiss and French Alps. The airport has fast train connections to various destinations in Switzerland and France.

Lake Geneva's famous cultural cities Lausanne and Montreaux as well as the spa centre Evian are excellent day trip destinations from Geneva either by train, car or boat. Travellers can drive around the lake by car in a day and even by bicycle the scenic route can be completed in about three days.
