Meditation and Buddhist Counseling with Mettanando Bhikkhu at Chiva-Som

Chiva-Som is working with the venerable Mettanando Bhikkhu, a Thai Buddhist monk who has been teaching meditation for over 30 years. From now until 6 June, the monk will be visiting Chiva-Som as a guest consultant and will be providing group sessions and private meditation lessons at the resort.

Mettanando Bhikkhu obtained his medical degree from Chulalongkorn University. His Masters Degree from Oxford University specialized in Sanskrit and ancient Indian religious culture. He went on to receive a Master Degree in Theology from Harvard Divinity School and a Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg, Germany. His thesis focused on Meditation and Healing of the Theravada Buddhist Monastic Tradition of Thailand and Laos. He currently teaches Buddhism and meditation at Chulalongkorn University and Assumption University, and is active in the field of alternative medicine in hospice and palliative care and teaching medical ethics to doctors and nurses both in Thailand and Internationally. He has the wonderful ability be able to communicate the most complex message in the simplest of ways.

Programs for Meditation & Buddhist Counseling include Introduction to Buddhist Meditation, Healing Meditation Body & Mind and Private Meditation for Healing and Counseling.

Introduction to Buddhist Meditation covers some historical development of early Buddhist spiritual practice and the concept of balanced body-and-mind according to the principle of The Middle Way. Meditation will be done in various postures, sitting, standing and walking, according to the earliest teaching of the Buddha on meditation.

Healing Meditation Body & Mind is a basic cause for healing meditation which participants will be introduced to various techniques of magnifying the energy of joy, happiness and love, and how to build self-confidence and self-control in the course of the higher Middle Way.

Private Meditation for Healing & Counseling is for the basic character of each individual, in his/her own unique way of living, belief-system, and personal challenges. Each session is based on the classical teaching of the Buddha, with practical advice and suggestion for betterment of body, mind and the spirit.
