Abacus HotelSmart launches new Web Version

Travel News Asia 19 September 2005

Abacus International today launched a new multi-language web version of its integrated, end-to-end hotel reservations solution, Abacus HotelSmart. This web version is aimed at augmenting Abacus’ traditional GDS hotel booking path by providing travel agents who want richer content with a feature-rich web version of its reservations tool, 24 hours a day.

The new web version of Abacus HotelSmart enables travel agents to save time, money and worry by providing instant access to over 21,000 hotel properties worldwide, with some of the best rates for hotels in China and cities across the globe. Its powerful search capability enables travel agents to search and sort by price, availability and name, and with the wealth of updated hotel information (including property and room information, maps and photographs) available at their fingertips, the agents can compare and recommend the hotel that best meets their customers’ needs. Furthermore, Abacus HotelSmart guarantees commissions to its travel agents, which works out to an average of USD25 in additional revenue for each booking that their customer makes.

Mr Don Birch, President & CEO, Abacus International said, “There has been increasing demand for online distribution of products and services in recent years, especially in the travel industry. While Abacus HotelSmart has always been very popular with our travel agents, they have told us that they would also like a system that provides access to new and multiple content sources through the use of browser, mobile and graphical interfaces. We thus decided to significantly enhance our online distribution capabilities, and by also integrating both published and unpublished inventory and pricing, we can make it much easier for all our agents to recommend and make hotel reservations for their customers, especially those in the online, leisure and lightly managed segments.”

Leveraging on its powerful distribution technology, Abacus can also provide its agents with a co-branded or private-label website within days, enabling them to reach out to a broader base of customers quickly and effectively. Alternatively, travel agents with existing websites can also augment their existing content offering by integrating Abacus HotelSmart’s 21,000 hotel properties into their websites via XML.

“The new interface is user-friendly and effortlessly easy to navigate, giving my staff, who had no prior computer knowledge, the confidence to introduce and sell hotels on their own now. The different rates and properties also allow us to cater to budget travellers and other market segments and I am confident that this new platform will generate more room nights and income for travel agents,” said Mr Ken Chua, LD Tours & Travel Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia.
