Le Meridien to manage new Hotel in Dublin

Travel News Asia 18 August 2005

Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts is to return to Dublin following the signing of an agreement with Dublin based property developers, Heritage Properties, to manage a 179-bedroom luxury hotel and spa. Construction work is scheduled to commence around the beginning of August, with the new Le Méridien Dublin expected to open December 2006.

The new hotel will be located in the Grand Canal Dock area of Dublin’s new south docklands development. The hotel will form part of a large two-phase, mixed-use complex, which also includes extensive office, residential, retail and entertainment facilities.

Le Méridien’s CEO, Robert Riley, said, “ This project provides Le Méridien with a rare opportunity to re-enter the Dublin market. We have excellent operational experience in Dublin and are looking forward to once again being part of this vibrant and strategically important European capital.”

Located in an important new urban space in Dublin City with views across Grand Canal Dock, Le Méridien Dublin has been designed by Portuguese architect, Manuel Aires Mateus of AMA Ltd and will be part of the first phase of the development. The interior design concepts will be created by internationally acclaimed Keith Hobbs of United Designers.

Grainne Hollywood, director of property, Dublin Docklands Authority said, “We are delighted that Le Méridien will be managing this prestigious hotel. The Grand Canal Square project, of which Le Méridien Dublin will be a key element, is a perfect centre-piece to what is undoubtedly one of the most intensive and exciting development areas in the country. It brings a sophisticated blend of uses into a breathtaking architectural setting and is sure to be one of Dublin's greatest landmarks."

The Le Méridien Dublin complex will also include a destination spa, meeting facilities and 84 luxury residential apartments, which will be marketed as ‘The Residences at Le Méridien Dublin’.

Phase two of the development at Grand Canal Square will comprise a 2,000 seat world-class theatre and entertainment centre, high quality third generation offices, an indoor shopping galleria and parking for 500 cars.
