Dubai launches new Tourism map in 12 languages

Travel News Asia 17 February 2005

As part of its endeavour to promote tourist facilities in Dubai, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is issuing a new Dubai map to help tourists easily locate restaurants, hotels, shopping malls, souqs, public beaches and parks and other popular tourist spots. The map has been developed by DTCM in co-operation with the private sector.

DTCM's Manager Media and Advertising, Ahmed Al Tunaiji said that the map is currently available in English and will soon be translated into Arabic, German, Russian, French, Italian, Japanese, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Spanish.

He added that issuing the new map in several languages is part of DTCM's plan of developing tourist-friendly literature to offer Dubai's visitors a hassle-free and comfortable experience. These languages cover the majority spoken by tourists visiting the emirate and each time the number of tourists from a certain region increases, the map will be re-printed in that language.

Referring to the different sizes, Al Tunaiji said the local edition would be available at information counters at Dubai International Airport and in Dubai, as well as at DTCM Headquarters. The map covers all important tourist spots and can be easily folded. The map carries advertisements on several hotels and tourist companies in Dubai.

The second edition is similar to the first version but with different advertisements. It will be distributed globally at DTCM Overseas Offices for international visitors and the travel trade. The third edition will be distributed among hotels in Dubai for their guests.
