Laguna Phuket opens Wedding Chapel

Travel News Asia 14 March 2005

The Laguna Phuket has opened its new wedding chapel by hosting its first wedding ceremony on 12 March, 2005.

Some 60 guests arrived by Laguna shuttle to take their seats in the charming Thai-styled Chapel on the Lagoon which literally floats on stilts above a tropical lake. The guests anxiously awaited the arrival of the Hong Kong based bride being elegantly transported to the venue by Banyan Tree’s traditional long-tail boat fittingly named “Sanya Rak” (which translates to ‘Promise of Love’). As a special touch, the Laguna Phuket chapel can be accessed by private vessel.

Wedding guests were suitably impressed by the stunning 360-degree panoramic views overlooking the seaside lagoon towards the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket and Bangtao beach.

The chapel’s light, airy interior evoked an intimate atmosphere of reverence. After the formal ceremony where a few tears were shed, the wedding party happily celebrated with champagne and canapés in the lakeside garden next to the chapel before being whisked back to the Banyan Tree Phuket for an extravagant evening of wining and dining, topped off with fireworks and a disco.

The Chapel on the Lagoon may only be hired by clients of the five Laguna Phuket hotels who can arrange either Western or Buddhist style wedding ceremonies in the venue. However for Japanese customers, Laguna Phuket has engaged wedding specialists South Pacific Bridal from Japan, operating as SPB Laguna Phuket, to market the highest quality full service weddings inclusive of wedding consultation, Western ceremony, exquisite wedding gowns, tuxedos, all wedding accessories, professional Japanese hair and makeup, full floral arrangements, photo album, video package, bridal gifts, translation services, chapel transfers, spa treatments and receptions for the wedding party.

The Laguna Phuket comprises five deluxe hotels: Banyan Tree Phuket, Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, Dusit Laguna Resort, Laguna Beach Resort and Allamanda Laguna Phuket, which offer a range of accommodation, catering, reception and honeymoon options. The hotels share 600 acres of sprawling tropical parkland and three kilometres of beach frontage with the Laguna Phuket Golf Club, Canal Shopping Village, Banyan Tree Spa and Gallery, and four Angsana Spas and Galleries.
